Inca, the third largest town on the island of Mallorca, with a population of around 23,000, is a modern industrial town, comprising mostly unattractive apartment blocks, it is however the centre of leather production on the island, and many visit to purchase the bargain leather goods on offer there. Explore the old narrow streets of the town and you may find some places of interest including the monastery cloisters of Sant Francesc.
Visit on a Thursday and you will be in good company, as thousands of shoppers descend on the town to visit the sprawling street market, one of the most popular on the island. Inca is a good place to try out some traditional Mallorcan food, visit one of the old wine cellars which have been turned into restaurants, this is also wine growing country, so taste some Mallorcan wine with your meal as well. Inca is the capital of the Raiguer district between the Serra Tramuntana and Es Pla (the Plain).
Located centrally on the island, between Palma de Mallorca and Alcudia, Inca is situated just off the MA-13 on the Ma-13a. Inca is a stopping off point on the narrow gauge railway which runs between Palma de Mallorca and Sa Pobla.
