Santa Ponsa is a well known holiday resort situated in the south-west of the island of Mallorca (Majorca) in the municipality of Calvia, it is situated around 18 km from the capital Palma de Mallorca. Long before tourists arrived in their thousands, there was a more famous arrival in Santa Ponsa as this was the landing place of King Jaime I of Aragon on 10th September 1229 when he came to free the island from over 300 years of Muslim rule, Mallorca was subsequently incorporated into the Kingdom of Aragon.
These days things are a little more peaceful in Santa Ponsa and it is more of a family resort than the neighbouring Magaluf and Palma Nova, it has a couple of lovely sandy beaches and a good range of facilities.
A popular area for golfers, the Santa Ponsa Golf complex has 3 golf courses (1 x 9 hole and 2 x 19 hole), and attracts golfers throughout the year as the weather is ideal for this sport.
Santa Ponsa can be easily accessed by way of the MA-1 motorway from the capital Palma de Mallorca, it is about 30 kilometres from the airport to the east of Palma.
