Guide to Finding the Best Gran Canaria Beaches

Gran Canaria Beach Guide - Gran Canaria is well known for its fine beaches, this short guide will help you choose the perfect Gran Canaria beach for your holiday on the island.

Playa del Ingles Beach - Probably the best known beach in the Canary Islands, Playa del Ingles beach is around 3 km long and is located in the busiest tourist area on the island, it offers a wide range of facilities including windsurfing, water-skiing, jet-skis, and sailing plus the usual sun loungers, parasols and beach bars.

Playa de las Canteras - Another 3 kilometres of fine sandy beach is Playa de las Canteras, located in the capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Located in a cove this wonderful stretch of sand is perfect for sunbathing, swimming and water sports, the promenade behind the beach offers plenty of facilities and entertainment.

Maspalomas Beach - As good as any on the island, Maspalomas beach is backed by windswept sand dunes in an area of spectacular beauty. The beach has fine white sand and is perfect for families. Facilities include beach bars and restaurants, water sports, loungers and parasols. Maspalomas itself is one of the busiest on Gran Canaria.

Puerto Mogan Beach - The pretty fishing village turned tourist resort of Puerto Mogan has a nice man made beach, made of sand imported from Africa, ideal for children and in a quieter more laid back resort.

San Agustin Beach - Somewhat quieter and less well known than the neighbouring beaches of Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas, San Agustin beach (Playa de San Agustin) is a 700 metre long gently sloping beach, great for snorkeling and diving. Head here if you want to get away from the worst of the crowds during the busiest times.

Puerto Rico Beach - A man made crescent shaped beach of san imported from Africa, Puerto Rico beach is a crowded beach full of sun worshipping holidaymakers, don't head here if you don't like crowds, but if you can stand the company, the beach is safe for children and reputed to be the sunniest beach on Gran Canaria.

Playa de los Amadores ("Lovers Beach") - Another man made beach, Playa de los Amadores comprises 800 metres of golden sand, and is another great beach for families, behind the beach are a good selection of bars and restaurants.

Above are a selection of just a few of Gran Canaria's beaches on which you can enjoy the sunny weather, your search may be limited to the resort in which you are staying, although if you are hiring a car, you can take a tour around the island and find your own dream Gran Canaria beach.
