Vall de Laguar

Places to Visit - La Vall de Laguar Spain

La Vall de Laguar is to be found just a 25-minute drive inland from the Mediterranean coastal town of Denia in the Marina Alta, Alicante province. Moving away from the busy developed coastline you approach the mountains where a feelings of stillness and peace still exist. Here you will find an area of outstanding beauty and tranquillity to match. Made up of three villages Campell, Fleix and Beimaurell with no more than 400 residents in each.

Passing through the village of Campell and continuing you will eventually arrive in Fleix where the Town Hall for the three villages is located, a further 2km on is Benimaurell, the highest village. This entire area is designated National Park and is extremely unspoilt, there are many natural water fountains and is a haven for anyone who enjoys nature, especially those who like to walk.

Stunning mountain ranges surround the village of Fleix and being at an altitude of 450m there are breathtaking views back towards the Denia coastline and on a clear day you may even be able to see the island of Ibiza. La Vall de Laguar has a remarkable landscape on one side is the "Cavall Verd", a mountain peak with much legend and history, and on the other side is the "Barranco del Infierno" (Hells Gorge), a very imposing sight. The influence of the moors is evident in the large number of stonewalled terraces, which cover the mountain edges, this is rich ground for the many almond and cherry trees, which put on a spectacular display at blossoming time. There are many species of plants recorded in the surroundings and hundreds of these are native to the area and with such a varied landscape it also provides an environment for a wide array of animals, such as rabbits, weasels, wild boar, mountain cats, foxes and birds of prey like the goshawk and tawny owl.

The climate here is one of the greatest virtues of this area of Spain, with over 300 days a year of sunshine, little rainfall and an average temperature of 10°C to 25°C during the winter. The traditions of these inland zones of Alicante province continue just as strong as ever and many Fiestas that stem from times long past are still very much part of life. Each village in the Vall de Laguar has its fiesta, Fleix has its in early September.

You could hardly find a better place to live!
