A small town with a population of 6,004 (2006), Ondara is perhaps best known for its bullring which was built in the late 19th century. Occupied by the Moors during their conquest of Spain, Ondara had its first castle built by the Arabs, which enabled them to hold on to the town until 1244 when they were finally overthrown by the Christians. Places of interest in Ondara include the 16th century church of St Ann, the old Clock Tower, the Franciscan built Town Hall and the Assut a small stone dam dating from the times of the Muslim occupation. Ondara is located on the N-332a and close to the AP-7 (E-15) motorway, it is just over an hour's drive from both Alicante and Valencia airports.
