Pontevedra Galicia: The historic town of Pontevedra is located in the Galicia region of north-western Spain. It is situated at the tip of a long ria (similar to a fjord), which is lined with green hills. Pontevedra has a population of about 81,000, and is also a municipality with an area of 118 square kilometres. Pontevedra has some interesting places to visit and you should head first, to the old town, where a maze of ancient cobbled streets and alleyways are interrupted by pretty squares, where you can take a coffee and absorb the atmosphere of this charming place.

Among the best places to visit in Pontevedra are the main museum, the Museo de Pontevedra, located on the Praza de la Leña, and based in 2 old mansions, here you can view art works by a number of Spanish painters including Goya, Zurbarán, and Castelao, there are also some Bronze Age artefacts unearthed in the surrounding areas. Other places to visit include the Iglesia de Santa Maria, dating from the 16th century, and the Ruinas de Santo Domingo, another museum.

Festivals in Pontevedra include the Fiestas de la Peregrina, held in August every year.

Pontevedra is located to the north of Vigo, on the north-west coast of Spain, it can be reached via the AP-9 (E-1), the N-550 or the N-541, it is about 29 kilometres drive from the city of Vigo.
