Novelda was formerly a significant Moorish fortress town during the long struggle with the Christian re-conquerers. Novelda is now a delightful modern town with a population of about 27,000, it is renowned for the production of wine, saffron and marble. The historic Castle of Mola, located outside the town, dates from the 14th Century. Novelda has some other interesting places to visit including its famous Modernist Museum.
