An ancient city dating from the 7th century BC, Ibiza Town was founded by the Phoenicians, its old town, Dalt Vila has many remains from very early times in the town's history. The cathedral of Santa Maria de las Nieves stands on a site that was originally a Roman temple dedicated to the God Mercury, the cathedral was completed in 1592. Ibiza Town is well known for its vibrant nightlife and has some of the most famous night-clubs on the island. When the weather is hot, head down to one of the town's 3 beaches, maybe the best being Playa d'en Bossa.
Situated in the south-east of the island, Ibiza Town is the location of the island's airport and all major roads radiate from it, there is also a major port with ferry links to the mainland and to the other Balearic Islands.
