On the borders of Alicante and Murcia provinces lies the village of La Aparecida, dominated by the Sierra de Orihuela mountains which overlook it, the village is a quiet and peaceful place.
La Aparecida is another of the Vega Baja (Low Fertile Valley) villages of the Southern Costa Blanca, Spain and over the years is has belonged to both Alicante and Murcia provinces.
Visitors may be interested to see the local church (Nuestra Señora de Belen) and visit the ‘Milk Grotto’ where there is a portrait of the Madonna feeding the baby Jesus.
As with all Spanish villages, La Aparecida has its share of fiestas and celebrations, the main one being on the last Sunday in September, when there is a religious festival culminating in a huge feast comprising mostly locally grown produce.
One claim to fame for the village is that the Olympic Torch passed through the village on its way to Barcelona in 1992.
La Aparecida is clinging ferociously to its culture and tradition as a typical Spanish village and hopefully will not be adversely affected by the new development which has spoiled many of the other villages in the area.
The inhabitants of La Aparecida are proud of their local traditions and offer a warm welcome and a smile to anyone who chooses to visit their village - they would be happy to welcome you there some time soon.
La Aparecida can be reached via the N340 between Murcia and Orihuela.
