Crevillente – Spain’s Leading Carpet Town

Crevillente (also known as Crevillent): A good sized town for the area Crevillente is overlooked by the Sierra de Crevillente mountains and has a population of 28,609 inhabitants and is situated in the Baix Vinalopo district of the Alicante province (Costa Blanca), it is near to the city of Elche and is also close to the Natural Park of El Hondo (El Fondo)

Today a bustling industrial town Crevillente's economic roots lie in agriculture, at least since the times of the Moors who enable the irrigation of this otherwise dry place. It is now well known for the production of carpets, and industry which began in the 18th century, when Esparto Grass was used as a raw material.

Not the most inspiring or attractive of towns to visit, though you might still want to take a look at the church, Nuestra Señora de Belen and the Town Hall.

You might also like to visit the important wetlands of the El Hondo Natural Park.

Crevillente is situated on the N-340 and is also close to the A-7 (Autopista) motorway, it is around twenty five kilometres from the provincial capital and city of Alicante.
