Algorfa Costa Blanca - Situated between Almoradi and Rojales in the Vega Baja region of the Costa Blanca, Spain is the tiny citrus farming village of Algorfa. Located on the banks of the River Segura, Algorfa lies on rich and fertile land, its surrounding countryside is full of orange and lemon groves. Algorfa enjoys spectacular views both to the mountains and to the azure blue Mediterranean Sea.
There appear to have been settlements in the region around Algorfa during the Neolithic Period (4,000 to 2,000 BC), some human remains and tools were discovered by a Jesuit archaeologist from Orihuela in 1903.
The municipality of Algorfa was originally founded in 1328 when Alfonso II granted a privilege which made Algorfa part of the kingdom of Valencia, the first village of Algorfa consisted of just fifteen homes housing fifteen families. This privilege stood until it was withdrawn by Felipe V after the War of Spanish Succession (1701-1714), it was later restored by Carlos IV by request of the Marquess of Algorfa at the end of the 18th Century.
Modern day village life in Algorfa centres mostly around the pretty village square, this is where most of the traditional local fiestas take place and also other activities and celebrations. The square is also where the Town Hall is located, together with the church and the police station. The village square is a popular place to enjoy a quiet drink or a snack. Algorfa is an exceptionally friendy place and visitors are always welcomed with a smile.
Algorfa has a wonderful warm Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers. The entire region can generally expect over three hundred days of sun annually and enjoys an average temperature of approximately 19 degrees centigrade. Rainfall in Algorfa is low and occurs mostly in the winter months.
Also worth seeing whilst in Algorfa are the quaint cave dwellings at nearby Rojales, the Parque Natural de La Mata y Torrevieja (a fine Natural Park with walking routes and rich wildlife), the substantial gardens at the Palace of the Marquis de Fontabla at Jacarilla and the 19th C neo-gothic church on the Benejuzar road.
Remember a trip to Algorfa’s own Sunday market an ideal spot to pick up a bargain.
There are a variety of sports and leisure facilities available in and around Algorfa including the La Finca Golf Club - with its championship course set amongst natural surroundings, the recreation centre offering a wide range of facilities and there are some beautiful cycling and walking routes. An excellent range of water sports are enjoyed in the local coastal towns and there is a super Aqua Splash park at nearby Quesada. As well as La Finca Golf Club there are several other golf courses within easy reach of Algorfa, notably along the Orihuela Costa, where there are 3 golf course very close together. There are also some great facilities at nearby Torrevieja.
There are no beaches in Algorfa, as it is an inland village, but just down the road at Guardamar del Segura you will find miles and miles of excellent sandy beaches together with some superb water sports facilities. The surrounding coastline is renowned for its crystal clear water and there are some wonderful spots for scuba diving and snorkelling.

Algorfa is located on the Southern Costa Blanca, Spain and can be accessed from the CV-91 road between Guardamar del Segura and Orihuela. Also close by is junction 740 of the AP-7 motorway which runs from Crevillente to Cartagena.
