Attractions in Seville
Guide to some of the best loved Seville attractions and places to visit in this historic city in Andalucia, Spain.
Tourist Attractions in Seville (Sevilla) Spain
Seville is divided into a number of distinct districts, the main attractions for tourist are located in the areas of La Macarena, El Arenal, Santa Cruz, and Parque Maria Luisa.
Probably the first port of call for visitors to Seville (Sevilla) will be the magnificent Gothic cathedral and its accompanying bell tower La Giralda. The cathedral is located in the Santa Cruz district of the city, it was built on the site of an Arab mosque dating from the late 12th century, it was itself begun in 1401 and is the largest cathedral in Europe.
Another major tourist attraction is the Casa de Pilatos, also situated in the Santa Cruz district it was originally started in about 1520 by the 1st Marquess of Tarifa, it is so named because it was thought to resemble the Jerusalem home of Pontius Pilate.
This great house was embellished over the centuries by its subsequent owners.
Another of the “must visit” Seville attractions is the Torre del Oro (Tower of Gold), built in the Moorish style, it is located in the El Arenal district of Seville and was originally built as a watchtower in 1220 by the Almohads, who held control of the city at the time, the turret was added in 1760. The name is though to be taken from the gilded azuelos which once adorned its walls.
There are of course many more attractions to be visited in Seville and we shall be adding more in the future.
