Costa Brava Resorts - Empuriabrava
Empuriabrava - Located on the Bay of Roses on the Costa Brava coastline of Catalonia in north-eastern Spain, the seaside resort of Empuriabrava has one of the largest marinas in the world. Originally built in an area of swampland in the mid-1960’s (when it was known as Ampuriabrava), it was planned by Miguel Arpa Battle to resemble Venice and Miami.
Empuriabrava is administered by, and serves as, the coastal resort for the town of Castello d’Empuries, with the entire resort having the look of a huge marina, with privately owned villas, served by a series of canals, having moorings for many of the owners at the end of their gardens.

There are over 20 miles of navigable waterways in all covering a large area, this is also a prime location for boat sales with available craft ranging from small sailing and fishing boats to the largest luxury yachts.
Empuriabrava is also a popular tourist destination, having one of the finest beaches in the region and offering a great range of facilities as is expected of a modern resort. It is particularly renowned for kitesurfing and windsurfing, the beach, bay and wind conditions being ideal for these sports, in fact Empuriabrava has hosted several windsurfing championship events.
Another extreme sport for which the town is known is sky diving, with the famous Skyrats, sky-diving school based in the town.
Empuriabrava has a vibrant nightlife scene and among its nightclubs are the renowned Pacha and the beachside Pasarella with its open-air bar.
Culture lovers visiting the area can head for the nearby town of Castello d’Empuries, its historic centre seeming little changed for hundreds of years. Be sure to visit the Gothic parish church of Santa Maria, construction of which began in the 14th century, and often referred to as ‘The Cathedral of Emporda’.
For even more artistic culture take a trip to Figueres, birthplace of Salvador Dali and the location of a museum housing a large collection of his works.
Outdoor types will be attracted by the Aiguamolls Natural Park, an important wetland area between the Muga and Fluvia rivers, with fresh and saltwater marshes, together with areas of farmland, forest and meadows, it was declared a Natural Park in 1983.
There is a decent choice of self-catering holiday accommodation in Empuriabrava with apartments and villas on offer.
Empuriabrava is located on the C-68 between Figueres and Roses, it is around 60 kilometres from Girona and its airport and 40 kilometres from the French border.
