Begur Spain - Located between the towns of L'Estartit and Calella on the Costa Brava coastline of Catalonia in north-eastern Spain, the town of Begur has a resident population of around 4,000 and a municipal area of 20.7km2. Situated in the district of Baix Emporda within the province of Girona, the town also includes the areas of Esclanyà (with Roman remains), Sa Tuna, Aiguafreda, Aiguablava, Sa Riera and Fornells.

One of the most attractive towns on the Costa Brava coast, Begur's charismatic old town is dominated by the remains of its 16th century castle which looks down from its lofty position on a hill. The ancient cobbled streets of the town are lined with delighful old fishermen's cottages, which have probably remained largely unchanged for centuries. The area's history no doubt goes back to Roman times and probably even further, as existing Iberian settlements would have been in place before the Romans arrived on the Iberian Peninsular. The castle was constructed during the 16th and 17th centuries to protect the town from attacks by pirates.

The Begur area has some of the most prestigious beaches in the region, most notably Fornells, Sa Tuna, Aiguablava, Playa Fonda, Aiguafreda and Sa Riera and whilst it attracts mostly Spanish visitors (especially from Barcelona), it is becoming increasingly popular with International tourists.

Begur Hotels - The Begur area offers a decent selection of hotels and rental accommodation, hotels include the Hotel El Convent, the Hotel Rosa, the Aiguaclara Hotel, the Hotel Sa Riera and the Bliss Begur Hotel.

Begur Markets - The local street market for Begur is held on Wednesdays, other nearby markets are held in Estartit on Thursdays and Palafrugell on Sundays.

Begur Fiestas - Begur holds a number of fiestas and celebrations throughout the year, if you are visiting, check with the local Begur Tourist Information Office for events being held during your stay.

Begur is situated on the GI-653, north of Calella de Palafrugell, it is about 47 kilometres from Girona and its airport.
