Cabo Roig Spain - The exclusive Costa Blanca resort of Cabo Roig is situated on the Orihuela Costa section of the coastline between Torrevieja and Pilar de la Horadada. The clean “blue flag” beaches, the beautiful cliff walks and the bustling Cabo Roig “strip” attract holidaymakers from all over the world. Very popular with the British and Irish, Cabo Roig also attracts a large number of Spanish visitors during the hot summer season, the people of Spain particularly love the beach and the sea. Well placed for visiting the entire Costa Blanca region, Cabo Roig is an ideal location for a touring holiday. Cabo Roig is often quiet during the winter and spring and this can be a good time to visit as even in December and January the temperature can be up in the 70’s.

The obtrusive watchtower which is the most famous landmark of Cabo Roig dates from the 16th century and was originally built to warn of attacks from Berber pirates who assailed the coastline in those long gone times. The tower now adjoins a restaurant, a great place for a quiet drink as it looks down over the marina and across the sea to La Manga. This is also the starting point for the wonderful cliff walk to La Zenia.

The two primary beaches of Cabo Roig (Cala Caleta and Cala Capitan) are both exceptionally popular and are kept clean, tidy and well maintained. The beach bar at Cala Caleta is a popular place for a tapas snack and even the odd midnight cocktail or two, during the hot summer months and the bar is often open until 4am. But be careful, negotiating your way back to the main road can be tricky by moonlight, especially when a little the worse for a drink or three!

Be sure to try out the well known cliff walk which runs from Cala Caleta beach to La Zenia beach, this is an ideal way to spend an evening during the bright summer months and will provide a very welcome cooling breeze on those hot muggy days. The walk offers some picturesque views of the sea and coastline and there are some interesting coves to explore along the way.

Cabo Roig has a wonderful climate and the sun shines on over three hundred days per year, the mean temperature being about 20 degrees C. You can usually expect to see little rainfall between May and October and the days are generally long and sunny. When rain does fall it is usually during the winter months, November and February being the most common months for rain. December and January are usually sunny and pleasant but with cold nights.

There are a wide range of bars and restaurants in the area, particularly along Cabo Roig strip (sometimes called "Aguamarina strip"), offering a wide range of cuisines including Spanish, Italian, Mexican, Indian, Chinese, Greek, Hungarian and of course English and Irish. There are also plenty of fast food establishments offering the usual burgers and kebabs. Cabo Roig has a lively nightlife particularly in the hot summer months.

During your visit you may want to venture out from Cabo Roig and enjoy some of the other attractions on offer. A trip to the Rio Safari at Elche is a very rewarding experience and the kids will love feeding the animals and riding on the “train” through the park. Perhaps a round of golf is more your “thing”, there are three excellent golf courses nearby at Villamartin, Campoamor and Las Ramblas. Maybe you could take a coach trip to Benidorm (if you haven’t hired a car) and marvel at the busiest seaside resort in Europe, or visit one of the regions historical cities, Cartagena, Murcia or Alicante have plenty of interesting sight to see.

Cabo Roig - Spain, a beautiful place to be - no wonder they call it “the jewel of the Costa Blanca”.

Cabo Roig lies just off the N-332 road between Torrevieja and Pilar de la Horadada, and is just a twenty minute drive from San Javier (Murcia) airport. Also close by is the AP-7 motorway which will get you to Alicante airport in around forty five minutes.
